BALTIMORE -- The 2018 NJCAA Region XX Division III Women's Basketball semifinal will take place tomorrow at Westmoreland County Community College and will feature the host school as the No. 2 seed against No. 3 seeded Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks at 12 p.m.
Westmoreland College would appear to enter the game as the favorite, having sported a 16-1 record at home this year as a part of their impressive 21-win season. The Wolfpack averaged just under 80 points a game, while holding opponents to a notable 46.4 points a game. Their dominance over their conference was extraordinary, outscoring opponents by an average of 60 points for a 10-0 record.
Anne Arundel enters the game having struggled on both sides of the ball, as they sit as a bottom five team in their conference in both points per game (61.2) and points allowed per game (77.1). The Riverhawks have scored 80 points just once this season, which is a huge obstacle in taking down Westmoreland.
These teams have each seemed to trend in a different direction with Westmoreland winning 10 consecutive games and Anne Arundel losing its last 10. The two met in the Westmoreland County Community College Tip-Off Classic back in November where the Wolfpack won 78-64 off of a dominating fourth quarter.
The winner will go on to play in the finals against the No. 1 seeded Montgomery College Raptors on Sunday. Montgomery College is coming off a first round exit in the Maryland Juco Tournament last week. The Raptors should enter the game with confidence, however, having defeated Westmoreland County 93-65 and Anne Arundel 91-64 this season.
