BALTIMORE (February 12, 2019) – The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (Maryland JUCO) today announced that it has selected Sabreen Muslim (women's basketball) and Jaedon Willis (men's basketball) as its Athletes of the Month for January 2019.
Muslim (Howard Community College | Baltimore City College)
The Dragons leading scorer continued her stellar play in the month of January. She totaled 156 points (22 points per game) and 120 rebounds (17 rebounds per game) in the first frame of 2019. Over the span of she recorded a double-double in all seven games, while shooting 55% from the field. Against Allegany College of Maryland (January 5), she scored a career-high 39 points while also grabbing 25 rebounds in the Dragons win. Muslim led the team with 20 points and 17 rebounds on January 26, as Howard won 59-55. For the season, Muslim currently averages 23.5 points per game and 16.5 rebounds per game, both of which lead the conference. Her 53.2 field goal percentage ranks second.
Willis (Harford Community College | McDonogh)
The freshman guard excelled in the month of January, averaging 20.3 points per game. The highlight of his month was a 41-point performance in a 95-88 win over Catonsville (January 18). Willis posted an exceptional 51.1% from the field throughout the month, including a free throw percentage of 89.7%. In his first start of the year, against Chesapeake (January 25), Willis scored 29 points in the Fighting Owls 100-80 win. Willis ranks sixth in the conference with a 19.9 points per game average. He leads the conference in three-point shooting percentage (44.6%) and ranks second in Maryland Juco with an 86.3 field goal percentage.
