COLUMBIA, Md. — Marlys Palmer was holding out for a hero. Someone had to come to the rescue. The Hagerstown Community College women’s basketball team was lost in the moment and down to the final seconds of completing something big.

WYE MILLS, Md. – Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) scored a career-high 41 points to carry the Baltimore City Community College men’s basketball team to its fifth straight win in an 85-80 victory over Chesapeake College on Friday night at the Chesapeake College Gym.

FREDERICK, Md. – The NJCAA has selected Frederick guard Kevin Smith (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor) as the Men's Division I National Player of the Week for the week of January 7.  In two games last week, Kevin averaged 31 points and nine assists.  He also played all 40 minutes in both games.

BEL AIR, Md. – Five Harford Fighting Owls were recognized for their academic excellence with an award from the most prestigious collegiate committee of academics in the nation. These fall student-athletes earned Capital One Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA.

BEL AIR, Md. – A pair of point guards were named MD JUCO Student-Athletes of the Month for their efforts on the hardwood during the month of December. Harford’s Shelby Key earned the honor for the women while Alfonzo Hawkins of CCBC Dundalk was named the recipient on the men’s side.
